Forge North Football<\/h1>

What?<\/strong> A free, open football session for young people.

You don\u2019t need to book a space – you can just turn up at the right time. Whoever comes along, we get some matches going between the young people.<\/p>

We have a Christian ethos across all our projects. This means that anyone is welcome, regardless of religion, background or ability. We don\u2019t want anything to stop you from enjoying your football, so the session is free to young people, and there is a great team there to look after you and make you feel welcome.<\/p>

We want football to be played with a positive attitude, where people give their best and are positive towards teammates, opposition and leaders. We want to encourage and build up the team and young people to be leaders and give opportunities for them to step up in sports leadership.<\/p>

Who are Forge Youth?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

We have been working with young people in Shiregreen for over 15 years. The Shiregreen team is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers, many of whom live in the local area and are building community there.<\/p>

Forge Youth is a Christian project working with children and young people across Sheffield. We are committed to making a positive difference to children in Sheffield and building safe, encouraging communities where children and young people can belong, explore a faith and other positive life choices, allowing them to experience life to the full.<\/p>

We work with young people in youth clubs, kids’ clubs, sports sessions, residentials, trips and schools. Our experience has shown that if we can have multiple points of contact with a young person, the positive impact increases and we seek to connect young people across our work<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A brief History of Forge Youth\n\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Forge Youth began in 2007, led by Rick Atkinson as part of Network Church Sheffield.<\/p>

As the church wanted to serve the wider city and not just their geographical area, we found that we were working with young people from many different backgrounds and many different experiences of faith. God started moving amongst the young people, and we saw him break into many young people\u2019s lives, yet something wasn\u2019t quite working. It seemed that no matter how big or how professional we made the youth events that we were running, we never quite seemed to meet the needs of the young people.<\/p>

Some people found that there wasn\u2019t enough prayer, some people just wanted to run around, some people found the music too rocky and some people said it was too hip-hop! We also found that leaders were too busy running events to actually hang out with the young people \u2013 which is why we started in the first place!<\/p>

Then we had a thought \u2013 why are we trying to make it big when we could make it good?<\/p>

We decided to rethink our approach. Instead of having big events that everyone attended, we decided to launch a network of youth projects, each one shaped to fit the community it was working with. This meant that each of the leaders could build real relationships with the young people, and they would notice when they weren\u2019t there! It also meant that the young people themselves could shape their youth work \u2013 let it look how they wanted it to and serve them how they needed.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
