We have a Christian ethos across all our projects. This means that anyone is welcome, regardless of religion, background or ability. We don’t want anything to stop you from enjoying your football, so the session is free to young people, and there is a great team there to look after you and make you feel welcome.
Who are Forge Youth?
We have been working with young people in Shiregreen for over 15 years. The Shiregreen team is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers, many of whom live in the local area and are building community there.
Forge Youth is a Christian project working with children and young people across Sheffield. We are committed to making a positive difference to children in Sheffield and building safe, encouraging communities where children and young people can belong, explore a faith and other positive life choices, allowing them to experience life to the full.
We work with young people in youth clubs, kids’ clubs, sports sessions, residentials, trips and schools. Our experience has shown that if we can have multiple points of contact with a young person, the positive impact increases and we seek to connect young people across our work
A brief History of Forge Youth
As the church wanted to serve the wider city and not just their geographical area, we found that we were working with young people from many different backgrounds and many different experiences of faith. God started moving amongst the young people and we saw him break into many young people’s lives yet something wasn’t quite working. It seemed that no matter how big or how professional we made the youth events that we were running, we never quite seemed to meet the needs of the young people.
We decided to re-think our approach. Instead of having big events that everyone attended, we decided to launch a network of youth projects, each one shaped to fit the community it was working with. With this new approach and help from some funding, Forge grew massively.
After a difficult Covid period for youth work Forge came through the other side and in 2023 moved along with other charitable work of the church to form a new charity called Food And Community Trust. The charity aims to bring hope, practical support and community through its food provision, debt work and youth services.
In 2026 it was decided that the youth projects should be handed back to local church to be embedded in the community where they belong. Therefore the Forge Youth projects in Shiregreen moved to become part of St James and St Christopher’s church in Shiregreen.
